Thelma Russell
Thelma is one of our Founder members. Although she was brought up in industrial Teesside, her childhood memories are all about the rural North Riding - fishing for tadpoles, picking bluebells, bird watching, the smell of wild garlic and head-high bracken. Thelma is concerned about environmental issues, so the making of felt - using just sheep’s wool, water and lots of elbow grease - is a way to create beautiful things in a sustainable low-tech way. It also connects powerfully with many cultures across the world who have traditionally made and used felt to house, clothe and protect themselves.
